Virginia 2A/1A High School State Championships

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Virginia, February 23. BRENTSVILLE District and Hidden Valley walked away with state titles at the Virginia 2A/1A High School State Championships. On the boys' side, Brentsville won with 206 points followed by Hidden Valley (201) and Jefferson Forest (191). Meanwhile, the Hidden Valley girls tallied 285 points for first, Western Albemarle took second (173.50), and Lafayette placed third (168).

Boys Results
Hidden Valley's Dylan Otruba, Alex Vance, Garrett Vaughn, and Lucas Otruba won the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:40.05.

Broad Run's Mark Sarman was a dual event winner in the 200 IM and the 100 butterfly. He clocked times of 1:54.30 and 51.23, respectively. He teamed up with Mike Poltash, Alan Horback and Jacob Leidy for a win in the 200 freestyle relay (1:29.09).

Evan Walter (Jamestown) won the diving competition with 378.60 points while Hunter Smith (Blacksburg) took second (322.70) and Ryan Antal (Jamestown) placed third (317.15).

Other event winners include Austin Criss (Salem) in the 200 freestyle (1:42.42), Luke Munson (Cave Spring) in the 50 freestyle (21.80), Kemp Pettyjohn (Brookville Bees) in the 500 freestyle (4:39.96), Ben Colley (Lafayette) in the 100 backstroke (51.96), and Ben Grove (John Handley) in the 100 breaststroke (57.43).

Carter Watson (Jefferson Forest) won the 100 freestyle in 46.59. He joined Caleb Williams, Joe Euhus and Chad Nowakowski for a first-place finish in the 400 freestyle relay (3:14.88).

Girls Results
Briar Woods won two of three relays. Caleigh Hensley, Kristin Haufler, Alli Haufler, and Elise Guessford won the 200 medley relay (1:50.60) and the 400 freestyle relay (3:36.14).

Cave Spring's Ali Horn was a dual event winner in the 200 IM (2:04.86) and the 100 butterfly (56.44).

Susanna White (Jefferson Forest) had individual wins in the 100 freestyle (51.64) and the 100 breaststroke (1:04.85).

Freshman Leah Piemonte (Christiansburg) won the diving competition with 368.60 points. Jamestown's Taylor Busching took second (331.85) and Hidden Valley's Lindsay Skolrood placed third (320.05).

Other first-place finishers include: Jackie Crawford (Cave Spring) in the 50 freestyle (24.56), Lauren Gray (Hidden Valley) in the 500 freestyle (5:00.95) and Nicole Haynes (Brentsville District) in the 100 backstroke (58.12).

Rachel Sepanski (Tabb) won the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:53.39. She teamed up with Katie O'Connell, Victoria Barley and Danielle Kimball for a win in the 200 freestyle relay (1:39.58).
