Wisconsin Boys Division I, II High School State Championships

MADISON, Wisconsin, February 21. AT the Wisconsin Boys High School State Championships, McFarland and Waukesha South/Catholic Memorial walked away with state titles. At the Division II meet, Waukesha South/Catholic Memorial scored 197 points for first while Madison Memorial took second (183) and Greenfield/Greendale placed third (173). Meanwhile, McFarland won for the Division I boys with 340.50 points followed by Whitefish Bay (238) and Monona Grove (187).

Division II Results
McFarland won two of three relays. Ryan O'Donnell, Jake Mandli, Collin Morgan, and Peter Grenzow set a state record in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:36.36. The previous record (1:37.15) was set by Sturgeon Bay's D. Knipfer, D. Schneider, S. Eliason, and C. Richard in 2005.

O'Donnell was a dual event winner in the 200 IM (1:53.44) and the 100 butterfly. He set a state record in the 100 butterfly with a time of 49.74. The previous record (49.99) was set by Hudson's John Cahoy in 1995.

Madison Edgewood's Chase Stephens had individual wins in the 200 (1:41.44) and 100 (46.74) freestyles.

O'Donnell, Collin Morgan, Brian Heiser, and Grenzow set a state record in the 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:26.42. The previous record (1:26.63) was set by Sturgeon Bay's L. Cummings, S. Parent, K. Campbell, and C. Richard in 2005.

Top finishers in the diving competition include Trevor Sisson (Monona Grove) (420.05), Ryan Citro (Cudahy) (392.95), and Josh Suchon (Plymouth) (344.60).

Other first-place finishers include Greg Hameister (Berlin/GreenLake) in the 50 freestyle (21.89), Jeff Maxwell (Milton) in the 500 freestyle (4:38.48), Drew teDuits (Madison Edgewood) in the 100 backstroke (49.63), and Alex Riegert (Delavan-Darien) in the 100 breaststroke (58.15).

teDuits, Mark Vukich, Eric Madsen, and Stephens teamed up for a win in the 400 freestyle relay (3:11.71).

Division I Results
Homestead's Erik Larsen won the diving competition with 406.05 points. Nathan Cox (MenFalls/Ger/Ham) and Andrew Suchla (Racine Park) followed with scores of 379.65 and 368.65, respectively.

Stephen Hanko, Tyler Lentz, Paul Ballweg, and Matt Friede (Sauk Prairie/Wisconsin Heights) won the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:35.53.
Senior Michael Drives (Madison Memorial) was a dual event winner in the distance races. He clocked times of 1:39.66 (200 freestyle) and 4:31.58 (500 freestyle).

Jack Lennertz (Greenfield/Greendale) won the 100 butterfly in 49.81. He teamed up with Mike Lucchesi, Matt Jungers and Mark Liederbach for a win in the 200 freestyle relay (1:26.05).

Lentz had individual wins in the 200 IM (1:50.29) and the 100 backstroke (50.10). His teammate, Friede, won the 50 and 100 (45.01) freestyles. Friede set a state record in the 50 freestyle with a time of 20.44. The previous record (20.47) was set by Kyle Bubolz in 2004.

Michael Salerno, Patrick Franken, Drives, and Ben Anderson closed the meet with a first-place finish in the 400 freestyle relay (3:09.24).
