Elizabeth Beisel Highlights Rhode Island High School State Championships

KINGSTOWN, Rhode Island, February 19. NORTH Kingstown's Elizabeth Beisel, who is a six-star recruit in the Swimming World College Recruit rankings, highlighted the Rhode Island High School State Championships by setting state records in the 200 IM and the 100 freestyle. She clocked personal-best times of 1:56.87 and 50.30, respectively. Beisel set the previous 200 IM record (1:57.46) in 2009 and the previous 100 freestyle record (51.83) in 2007. The 2008 U.S. Olympic Swim Team member is headed to the University of Florida.

Team Scores
LaSalle Acadamy and Bishop Hendricken walked away with state titles. The LaSalle Acadamy girls tallied 317 points for first while Narraganset took second (211). North Kingstown and Bay View tied for third place with 177 points. On the boys' side, Bishop Hendricken won with 375.50 points followed by East Greenwich (187) and North Kingstown (155).

Girls Results
Narraganset won two of three relays. The foursome of Katie Degan, Annie Carter, Angelica Spinazzola, and Bianca Spinazzola won the 200 medley relay (1:52.59) and the 200 freestyle relay (1:43.66).

B. Spinazzola was a dual event winner in the 200 (1:53.36) and 50 freestyles. She set a state record in the 50 freestyle with a time of 24.35. The previous record (24.40) was set in 2007 by Kathryn Haron.

Other first-place finishers include Bethany Douglas (Bay View) in the 100 butterfly (58.35), Courtney Kent (Cumberland) in the 500 freestyle (5:06.45), Cassandra Jones (West Greenwich) in the 100 backstroke (59.75), and Georgi Pettibone (LaSalle Acadamy) in the 100 breaststroke (1:07.95).
Beisel, Emily David, Kate Perreault, and Jessica Rudman combined for a win in the 400 freestyle relay (3:44.47).

Boys Results
Bishop Hendricken won all three relays. David Evans, Matt Maxwell, Dimitrius Palmer, and Hunter Lemoi won the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:43.38. Palmer also won the 100 butterfly with a time of 53.39.
Narraganset's Luca Spinazzola was a dual event winner in the 50 (21.92) and 100 (46.99) freestyles.

Ian Dinwoodie (Bishop Hendricken) won the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:54.81. He teamed up with Lemoi, Mike Fedorenko, and Palmer for a win in the 200 freestyle relay (1:34.29).

North Kingstown's Benjamin Evangelista had individual wins in the 200 IM (2:00.79) and the 100 breaststroke (1:01.52).

Other first-place finishers include John Vatkevich (Mt. St. Charles) in the 200 freestyle (1:46.99) and Jeffery Laliberte (North Providence) in the 100 backstroke (55.71).

Fedorenko, Andrew Robinson, Alex Powers, and Dinwoodie closed the meet with a win in the 400 freestyle relay (3:24.26).
