USOC Votes Against Bidding For 2008 Games

COLORADO SPRINGS – The U.S. Olympic Committee voted against bidding for the 2008 Olympics despite interest from eight American cities. Instead, the USOC’s executive committee unanimously endorsed pursuit of the 2007 Pan Am Games as a steppingstone for an Olympic bid for 2012. The recommendation essentially ended the immediate hopes of the eight U.S. cities signed as potential bidders – Baltimore, Cincinnati, Houston, New Orleans, New York, San Francisco, Seattle and Washington. The USOC said it wanted to focus U.S. efforts on the 2002 Winter Games, already awarded to Salt Lake City.
