Missy Franklin Lowers National Independent High School Record; National Age Group Records

FORT COLLINS, Colorado, February 14. AT the Colorado 5A state high school championships, freshman Missy Franklin, 14, put together an incredible meet.

The Regis Jesuit High swimmer broke the national independent high school record in the 100-yard free with a 48.39 as the leadoff for Regis' 400 free relay. That performance cleared the 2002 record of 48.90 set by Gulliver Prep's Christina Swindle. Minot's Dagny Knutson still owns the overall standard with a 48.15 from prelims of North Dakota's state championship last year. Meanwhile, Franklin's time also beat her National Age Group record for the 13-14 age division. She owned the previous record with a 48.48 from last year.

Additionally, Franklin posted a 22.49 in the 50 free, just missing Swindle's national independent record of 22.39. She also just missed one of the most revered National Age Group records in the U.S. – Dara Torres' 1982 time of 22.44 set in the 13-14 age group.

Franklin also clocked a 53.16 in the 100 back, which lowered Elizabeth Pelton's NAG record of 53.36 set in 2008.
