Ohio vs. Xavier

CINCINNATI, Ohio, February 3. OHIO Swimming and Diving picked up its sixth straight win on Friday, earning an impressive 116-82 dual-meet victory at Xavier. The Bobcats leapt out to a fast start and never looked back, winning eight of the first nine events en route to picking up the victory.

The Bobcats (9-1, 4-0 Mid-American Conference) leapt out to a quick start, winning the 200 medley relay and the 800 freestyle right off the bat. A relay team of Anastasia Bocharnikova, Tori Bagan (Roanoke, Ind.), Caroline Meyer (Holland, Mich.) and Lauren Funk (Springfield, Ohio) touched first in the relay, finishing in a time of 1:48.61. Laurin Williams (Shoreline, Wash.) then took the top spot in the 800 freestyle, touching a full 20 seconds ahead of the nearest competitor with a time of 8:10.29.

Xavier was able to get back into the meet in the third event, as Anne Frigo earned the top spot in the 150 freestyle, swimming a time of 1:24.93. The Bobcats answered back immediately and emphatically, taking the top three spots in the next event of the day, the 50 freestyle.

Rachel Stearns (Minnetonka, Minn.), Michelle Gasior (Louisville, Ky.), Sarah Owen (Portsmouth, England), Abby Corcoran (Tucson, Ariz.) and Williams then finished first in the next five events to help the Green and White pull away. Stearns won the 100 IM in 59.90; Gasior won the 150 butterfly in 1:33.14; Owen took the top spot in the 100 freestyle in a time of 53.37; Corcoran won the 150 backstroke in 1:33.26 and Williams dominated the 400 freestyle, finishing in 4:03.98.

The Bobcats will next be in action on Saturday, Feb. 4 when they compete in the final dual meet of the season at MAC rival Miami. First event is set for 2 p.m.
