PISCATAWAY, New Jersey, January 15. THE first day of 14-and-under timed finals brought new meet records and sectional times at the CeraVe Invitational. The meet is hosted by the Berkeley Aquatic Club at the Rutgers University Aquatic Center.

Girls' 13-14 200 Freestyle
Erin McElfresh, 14 of Lansing Cats, swam nearly two body lengths ahead of her components during the 200 freestyle to win the race in a time of 2:11.38. Natalie O'Brien, also 14 of Lansing Cats, swam a 2:12.65 to touch out third place finisher Molly Treble (2:12.90), 13 of Long Island Aquatic Club.

Boys' 13-14 200 Freestyle
While Jersey Wahoos Swim Club's Joseph Petrone and Ridgewood YMCA's Eric Kim were neck and neck throughout the 200 freestyle, it was Petrone who triumphed in the race. Petrone, 14, swam a 2:02.60, with Kim, 14, coming in at 2:05.01. Rounding out the top three with a time of 2:06.90 was Ryan Richards, 14, also of Jersey Wahoos Swim Club.

Girls' 11-12 50 Backstroke
Elite Swim Club's Andrea Galea, 11, crushed the competition, winning the 50 backstroke with a time of 32.75. Snatching second was Jessica Arana, 12 of Long Island Aquatic Club, with a time of 34.80. Arana touched out third-place finisher Mary Fitzsimmons, 12 of Bgc-N. Westchester Marlins, who swam a 34.92.

Boys' 11-12 50 Backstroke
Jersey Wahoos Swim Club's Alex Martin, 12, swam ahead of the other swimmers to clench first place with a time of 31.75. Second place went to Robby Purvis, 12 of Bgc-N. Westchester Marlins, with a time of 32. 30, while Elite Swim Club's Stephan Kaplan, 12, swam a 32.79 to get third.

Girls' 10 and Under 50 Freestyle
Asphalt Green Unified Aquatics swimmer Alessia McGowan, 10, dropped nearly a second off her seed time to win the 50 freestyle with a time of 30.81. Second place went to Bgc-N. Westchester Marlins' Jamie Lee, 10, who swam a 31.52, while third place went to Madeline Kang, 10 of Long Island Aquatic Club, with a time of 33.16.

Boys' 10 and Under 50 Freestyle
Aristides Speres (31.80), 10 of Badger Swim Club, out-touched William Crewe (32.26), 10 of Berkeley Aquatic Club, to score a first-place finish. Rounding out the top three was Cole Collier (32.59), 10, of Asphalt Green Unified Aquatics.

Girls' 13-14 100 Backstroke
Lansing Cat's Erin McElfresh, 14, won her second event of the afternoon with a time of 1:10.97. She touched out Long Island Aquatic Club's Gabby Toback, 14, who swam a 1:11.26. Katherine Curran, 13, of Berkeley Aquatic Club, swam a 1:12.17 to get third.
Boys' 13-14 100 Backstroke
Badger Swim Club's Patrick Conaton, 13, finished first in the 100 Backstroke, breaking the meet record with a time of 1:04.04. The record, which was set by Jes E Stephen in 2008, was previously 1:04.07.

Jersey Wahoo Joseph Petrone, 14, went 1:05.14 to get second, while Ridgewood YMCA's Eric Kim rounded out the top three with a time of 1:05.90.

Girls' 11-12 400 Freestyle
In this afternoon's distance event, Long Island Aquatic Club's Jessica Arana, 12, dropped nearly two seconds off her seed time to score a first-place finish, going 4:44.99. Cathy Tan, 11 also of Long Island Aquatic Club, placed second with a time of 4:50.10, while Jersey Wahoos Swim Club's Isabel Obregon, 12, swam 4:54.02 to snatch third place.

Boys' 11-12 400 Freestyle
The 400 freestyle was one of the best races to watch at this afternoon's meet. Asphalt Green Unified Aquatic's John Nunez and Badger Swim Club's Liam Egan were neck and neck throughout the entire race, well ahead of the other swimmers. While Egan, 11, was ahead at the last flipturn, Nunez, 12, passed him during the last 25 to out-touch him with a time of 4:35.81. Egan took second with 4:35.92, well ahead of third-place swimmer Zachary Towers, 12 of Long Island Aquatic Club, who swam a 4:45.57.

Girls' 10 and Under 100 Backstroke
Bgc-N. Westchester Marlin's Jamie Lee, 10, won the race with a time of 1:18.12, crushing second place finisher, Coastal Maine Aquatic's Ana Neff-Jenrasko, 10, who swam a 1:23.00. Coming in third was Asphalt Green Unified Aquatic's Hadley Chang Ackerman, 10, with a time of 1:24.05.

Boys' 10 and Under 100 Backstroke
Mark McLaughlin, 10 of Bdc-N. Westchester Marlins, took first place in the 100 Backstroke with a time of 1:19.93, beating teammate Brian Glat, 10, who swam a 1:22.07 to take second place. James Simone, 10 of Badger Swim Club, rounded out the top three winners, going 1:22.43.

Girls' 13-14 200 Breaststroke
Scarlet Aquatic Club's Joanna Han, 13, swam a sectional time of 2:48.62 to win the title of first place. Second place went to Berkeley Aquatic Club's Erin Barry, 13, who went 2:51.00 while her teammate Jennifer Shahar, 14, took third with 2:57.00.

Boys' 13-14 200 Breaststroke
Jersey Wahoos Swim Club's Andy Schueler, 14, broke the meet record from 2009 with his sectional time of 2:31. 95. The previous record was 2:32.33 and was held by Leo Lim.

Coming in second with a time of 2:37.39 was Badger Swim Club's Max Tremain, 14, and third place went to Scarlet Aquatic Club's Scott Huang, who went 2:40.94.

Girls' 11-12 50 Breaststroke
Alexa Buckley, 11 of Berkeley Aquatic Club, clenched a zone time of 39.26 to win the 50 Breaststroke. Katie Merlin, 12 of Jersey Wahoos Swim Club, went 39.52, touching out Long Island Aquatic Club's Jessica Arana, who snatched third with a time of 39.56.

Boys' 11-12 50 Breaststroke
Elite Swim Club's Zach Katz, 12, stole the meet record from Patrick H Park. The record, which previously was set in 2008 at a time of 34.73, is now 34.19.

Coming in behind Katz was Jersey Wahoos Swim Club's Jacob Fleisher, 12, who swam the race in 38.91, while Bgc-N. Westchester Marlins' Robby Purvis, 12, grabbed third place with a time of 39.25.

Girls' 10 and Under 100 Breaststroke
Asphalt Green Unified Aquatic's Alessia McGowan, 10, swam the event in 1:32.66 to win first place. Coming in second was Bgc-N. Westchester Marlins' Jamie Lee, 10, with a time of 1:33.43, while Elite Swim Club's Alicia Lizuka swam a 1:33.77 to round out the top three.

Boys' 10 and Under 100 Breaststroke
Badger Swim Club's Aristides Speres, 10, stole his second first place finish of the meet, swimming a 1:29.97. Behind him was Bgc-N. Westchester Marlins' Mark McLaughlin, 10, who went 1:30.50. Asphalt Green Unified Aquatic's Cole Collier, 10, swam a 1:33.01 to get third place.

Girls' 13-14 200 IM
Lansing Cats' Erin McElfresh, 14, won her third event of the meet, swimming the section time of 2:29.33. Coming in at 2:33.62 was Scarlet Aquatic Club's Joanna Han, 13, who got second, while Long Island Aquatic Club's Gabby Toback, 14, rounded out the top three with a time of 2:33.79.

Boys' 13-14 200 IM
Evan Coleman, 14 of Coastal Marine Aquatics, won the 200 IM with a time of 2:19.11. Rounding out the top three was Andy Schuehler, 14 of Jersey Wahoos Swim Club, who swam a 2:19.98 and Max Tremain, 14 of Badger Swim Club, who went 2:22.32.
