Tammy Stone Blazes a 21.86 50 yard Free at American Short Course Champs

AUSTIN, TX. March 9. FORMER University of Texas Longhorn, Tammie Spatz-Stone, swam a blistering 50 yard freestyle to highlight action on the second day of competition at the American Short Course Championships in Austin, Texas.

Stone clocked 21.86 seconds for the two-lapper, setting a pool record and just missing the American
record of 21.77 held by Amy Van Dyken.

Another former Longhorn, Bryan Jones, won the men's 50 free in 19.88, edging Olympian Tommy Hannan at 19.93.

The women's 200 yard breaststroke saw 14 year-old Alexi Spann eke out a win over Valerie Oswald, 2:15.04 to 2:15.16. Spann is the daughter of former great Scott Spann.

A third ex-Longhorn, Neil Walker, claimed the men's 100 yard backstroke in a solid 47.11.

The final day of competition at the American Short Course Championships will resume on Saturday, March 10 with prelims beginning at 9 a.m. at the Jamail Swim Center. Saturday's final events are slated for 6 p.m.
