Industry News: Go Swim Announces First iPhone Application

ANNAPOLIS, Maryland, January 7. GO Swim today launched its first iPhone App, named, not surprisingly, "Go Swim." The app is available for free in the iTunes store, and it delivers the best of Go Swim's drills and technique photos right to the pool deck. If you're a coach, you can now have — in the palm of your hand — a way to instantly show your swimmers how to execute the drills and stroke techniques they need to learn. If you're a swimmer, the Go Swim app is like having a coach right there in your bag, along with your paddles and pull buoy.

The Go Swim app contains 50+ technique photos, each of which can save you a thousand words of explanation. When you need to show a swimmer the correct position for a track start, for example, or how to recover the arms on butterfly, you scroll to a high-rez photo of what you want to show, hold it up for the swimmer to see, and off they go.

The Go Swim app contains 50+ drills, arranged by stroke, to help you navigate quickly and easily to drills that will help you swim more efficiently — and put that "just right" image in your head before you push off. Need a flutter kick drill? A drill to help you master EVF? A drill to improve butterfly timing? It's in here. Many of the videos are shot in super-slow motion, so they look crystal clear on the iPhone and iPod Touch. With the free app installed, Go Swim's newest Drill of the Week will be delivered automatically every week — right to the palm of your hand.

Looking for other swimmers near you…or a way to talk to other swimmers and coaches about problems or breakthroughs? The Go Swim app has a Fan Wall that lets you connect instantly.

And while you're getting to and from the pool (or waiting for your swimmers to finish a long set), you can keep up with the official daily news of swimming with RSS feeds culled from Swimming World, USA Swimming, and a few more of Go Swim's favorite blogs. The Go Swim app delivers the daily news of swimming right to your hand.

There's more. It's free. Check it out under the category of SWIMMING in the iTunes store.

Some early reviews:

"Opening line for the GoSwim iPhone application description at the iTunes store: 'Welcome to the GoSwim app. You are about to become a better swimmer!' …and that is not hype or a 'boardwalk pitch.' This is the most important iPhone/iPod Touch app for swimming ever released! I kid you not! I can think of no better coaching or technical reference tool when trying to teach a swimmer a new drill or as a de facto example of fine technique when a computer is not available! Read that as on deck, in a restaurant, at a social gathering, or on a plane. This app is free, it is fun, and it's an asset." — Tony Austin, SCAQ.blogspot.com

"Go Swim has been putting a lot of work into this so I'm stoked to see it finally hit the streets! I'm still cruising through all the buttons and content, but so far I dig it. It has all kinds of pictures and video for you to look at, plus it pulls together swimming news from the Internet and some good stuff from twitter. The app costs all of $0 to download, so go check it out!" — Rob Dumouchel, robaquatics.com
