Clemson vs. Florida Atlantic, Northwestern, Findlay, Florida International

BOCA RATON, Florida, December 19. THE Clemson men's and women's swimming and diving teams competed against Florida Atlantic, Northwestern (women), Findlay and Florida International (women) in Boca Raton, FL Friday December 18. The men defeated Florida Atlantic 122-105 and Findlay 136-34 to improve to 5-1 (0-1 ACC), while the women defeated Florida Atlantic 174-66, Florida International 197-44 and Findlay 206-27 but fell to Northwestern 165-72 to move to 8-1 (2-0 ACC).

The men had a strong day winning eight events and had seven different winners. The Tigers started the day off with a top two finish in the 400 medley relay. Alex Carr followed up with a win in the 1000 free and then freshman Eric Bruck won the 50 free and Myles Oliver, Derek Barre and Marcus Elliott rounded out the top four.

Chris Dart won the 200 IM and Matt Angelini made it a 1-2 finish for the Tigers in that event. Seth Broster also notched a win for the Tigers in the 100 free Myles Oliver and Chris Reinke finishing second and third respectively. Thomas Recko won the 200 back and Will Clark took first in the 500 free.

On the women's side, Sarah Smith and Mandy Snell finished third and fourth in the 1000 free. Maddie Tarantolo took third in the 50 free with Heather Savage, Meg Anderson and Alex Allen finishing fifth, sixth and seventh. Tori Cervone also notched a top five finish taking fourth in the 200 IM.

Meggie Mizelle and Kristen Redmond finished fourth and fifth in the 200 butterfly. Heather Savage had her second fifth place finish on the day as she finished fifth in the 100 free. Kerry McLaughlin had a fifth place finish in the 200 back and Mandy Snell and Sarah Smith finish fourth and fifth in the 500 free. Katrina Obas finished fourth in the 200 breaststroke.

In diving, David Giambra won the one-meter for the men, while Brooke George won the three-meter for the women.

The Tigers will take a break for the holidays and return to action in 2010. Diving will compete in the Georgia Diving Invite January 3-5 and then the swimming and diving teams will travel to North Carolina on January 9 at 11:00 a.m.
