Daniel Allen Named Head Coach at Salem International

SALEM, West Virginia, December 16. SALEM International University is proud to announce Daniel Allen as its new head men's and women's swimming coach.

Allen comes to SIU from Geneseo State in Geneseo, New York. In four seasons as an assistant coach, he helped the Blue Wave set 58 School Records and 28 SUNYAC Conference Records. He coached 86 Individual and Relay SUNYAC Conference Champions and 13 NCAA Division III Meet Participants that achieved 45 All American Certificates. In 2008 and 2009, he was the recipient of the "Coaching Staff of the Year" award. He guided the men and women teams to four consecutive winning seasons with a combined dual meet record of 96-5. The men team won four conference team titles and the women team two conference team titles under his guidance.

"I am excited to work with Keith Bullion and Chancellor Brooks in order to bring the program back to its glory days," Allen said. "It is going to be a challenge but I see great potential and am looking forward to the opportunity."

Allen earned a bachelor degree in communication from Geneseo State in 2006. While at Geneseo, he competed for the Blue Wave from 2002-2005. Allen was a 13-time SUNYAC Conference Champion and 4-time ECAC Champion. In 2004, he participated in the Division III National Championship and was recognized as the Rochester Area College Swimmer Athlete of the Year. He was named the 2005 SUNYAC Most Outstanding Swimmer in his last year of competition. Allen held the school records in the 50 freestyle and was part of the school record holding 200 and 400 freestyle relays upon his graduation.

"Coach Allen has had a very impressive swimming career as a nationally-ranked athlete and has been a very important part of the success that Coach Dotterweich continues to have at Geneseo, " Athletic Director Keith Bullion commented. "I look forward to his enthusiasm and recruiting abilities to bring the swimming program back."

In addition to his coaching duties, Allen was the Aquatic Manager at Geneseo State. He worked with the Aquatic Director in scheduling, developing, staffing, and supervising, of all the aquatic programs.

Allen began his duties on Dec. 1.
