U.S. Short Course Junior Nationals: Meet Comes to Close With More Meet Records

COLUMBUS, Ohio, December 12. THE final night of swimming at the U.S. short course junior nationals came to a close with several more meet records going in the books.

Mission Aurora's Bonnie Brandon topped the women's 1650 free with a 16:11.75, while Greenwood's Eva Fabian took second in 16:15.86. The Woodlands' Ed Yildirimer won the men's 1650 free in 15:11.41, clearing the meet record 15:14.17 Arthur Frayler established a year ago. Boulder City's Zane Grothe also eclipsed the previous mark with a second-place 15:14.02.

Courtney Bartholomew twice progressed the meet record in the women's 200 back. First, she clocked a 1:55.33 during prelims before winning tonight in 1:54.17. Crow Canyon's Madison White finished second in 1:56.17. Greenwood's Jared Markham and Corvallis' Jacob Pebley put on a show in the men's 200 back with a 1:45.21 to 1:45.64 finish. Both surpassed the established meet record of 1:46.46 set by Jack Conger during prelims. Conger wound up sixth in the evening with a 1:47.66.

Lindsay McKnight of Coral Springs kept on trucking in what has been a breakout meet for the 15-year-old. She won her fourth title with a 49.15 in the women's 100 free. Swim Torrance's Vlad Morozov took home the men's 100 free in 43.27, beating his prelim meet record of 43.88.

Mary Olsen of Sun Devil Aquatics touched first in the women's 200 breast with a 2:12.48, while Peoria Area's Matthew Elliott smashed the field in the men's 200 breast with a 1:57.58. Alamo Area's Lily Moldenhauer won the women's 200 fly with a time of 1:58.94. Nashville's Dakota Hodgson and The Woodlands' Gray Umbach finished 1-2 in the men's 200 fly with times of 1:46.09 and 1:46.75. Both times cleared Hodgson's meet record of 1:47.14 set last year.

Bolles' Stacey Stanfield, Megan Fonteno, Grace Hoffman and Aubrey Peacock clocked a 3:21.45 to win the women's 400 free relay in a meet record time, while teammates Blair Schiller, Colin Hamilton, Ryan Murphy and Thomas Gutman took the men's 400 free relay in a meet-record 3:01.72.
