COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado, December 11. OLYMPIC gold medalist Ryan Lochte (Daytona Beach, Fla.) has withdrawn from this month's Mutual of Omaha Duel in the Pool due to injury.
Lochte, who was slated to be one of the 36 U.S. swimmers headed to Manchester, is still in process of recovering from a recent knee surgery, and will not be able to compete in the meet. His spot on the team will not be filled by another swimmer.
The Mutual of Omaha Duel in the Pool will take place December 18 & 19 at the Manchester Aquatic Centre in Manchester, England. Team USA, including Olympic gold medalists Michael Phelps, Rebecca Soni and Aaron Peirsol, will take on the E-Stars, which is a team of top swimmers from Great Britain, Germany and Italy. A two-hour broadcast of the event will air on NBC on December 27 from 2 – 4 p.m. ET.
