Canada Cup: Brent Hayden Lowers 50 Free Meet Record

TORONTO, Canada, November 28. THE second evening of short course meter swimming at the Canada Cup featured two meet records going into the books.

Brent Hayden cleared the meet record in the men's 50 free with a 21.84. He beat his previous record of 21.91 set in 2006. Brian Johns, Hayden, Rory Biskupski and Matt Godbeer broke the meet record in the men's 800 free relay with a 7:14.69. That time eclipsed the previous mark of 7:15.85 set in 2006.

Kelly Aspinall doubled up on the evening. First, Aspinall won the men's 50 back in 25.26. Aspinall picked up his second title with a 53.92 in the men's 100 fly.

Genevieve Saumur touched out Hanna Kubas, 28.20 to 28.29, to win the women's 50 back. Alex Komarnycky eked out a 4:10.20 to 4:10.28 triumph over Tanya Hunks in the women's 400 free.

Ryan Cochrane captured the men's 400 free in 3:47.86, while Lindsay Delmar hit the wall in 59.47 to win the women's 100 fly. Erica Morningstar cruised in the women's 200 IM with a winning effort of 2:12.84. Brian Johns also pocketed the men's 200 IM crown in 1:58.75.

Victoria Poon touched out Jen Beckberger, 25.17 to 25.19, in the women's 50 free. Annamay Pierse snatched the women's 200 breast title in 2:21.89, while Paul Kornfeld grabbed the men's 200 breast in 2:11.43.
