CASTELLON, Spain, November 28. THE final session of the third day of swimming featured a sprinkling of Spanish records at the Spanish Short Course Championships held in Castellon.
Erika Villaecija Garcia claimed the meet record with a time of 8:17.01 in the women's 800 free. She surpassed her previous record of 8:19.28 set in 2004.
Eloi Saumell Montserrat pocketed the men's 200 free crown in 1:45.47, while Maria Fuster Martinez won the women's 50 free in 24.89 after setting the national record with a 24.87 during prelims. Fuster beat the previous record of 24.92 set by Aracelli Herraez De La Calle in April this year.
Melquiades Alvarez Caraballo snatched the men's 100 breast meet record with a 59.01. His time eclipsed the 59.22 set by Borja Iradier back in 2006. Meanwhile, Mireia Belmont Garcia posted a national record in the women's 100 breast with a 1:06.12. That time beat Concepcion Badillo Diaz's 1:06.51 from two weeks ago. Diaz finished second in 1:06.48 today, beating her previous best.
Aschwin Wildeboer Faber raced to a 23.27 in the men's 50 back, just off his national standard of 23.12 from April, while David Cromwell put up a second-place 23.52. Mercedes Peris Minguet put together a pair of 27.13s in prelims and finals for the women's 50 back win. The times just missed her national mark of 27.07 set yesterday.
Carlos Lenador Rivas led the way in the men's 100 fly with a meet-record time of 51.39. That readout beat Alex Villaecija Garcia's time of 51.55 set in 2008. Angela San Juan Cisneros, meanwhile, beat her national record in the women's 100 fly with a 58.74. That swim erased her 58.90 set in April.
Alan Cabello Forns won the men's 400 IM in a meet-record 4:06.27. He beat the 4:10.36 Sergio Garcia Ortiz set in 2008.
