Minnesota Girls 1A, 2A High School State Championships

MINNEAPOLIS, Minnesota, November 24. SARTELL-Saint Stephen and Stillwater won state titles at the Minnesota Girls High School State Championships. At the 1A meet, Sartell-Saint Stephen tallied 236 points for first followed by Hutchinson (207) and Monticello (185). The Stillwater girls won the 2A meet with 265 points while Edina took second (205) and Minnetonka placed third (192).

1A Results
Hutchinson won two of three relays. They opened the meet with a win in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:48.25.

Freshman Marisa Wood (Sartell-Saint Stephen) was a dual event winner in the 200 and 500 freestyles. She set meet records in the prelims of both events with times of 1:50.88 and 4:56.20 respectively. Meghan Weiss (Visitation) set the previous record in the 200 freestyle (1:51.88) in last year's prelims.

Chole Timm (Sauk Rapids-Rice) won the diving competition (408.30) followed by Jenna Karrow (East Ridge) (375.45) and Tori Raihle (Spring Lake Park) (356.95).

Sartell-Saint Stephen set a meet record in the 200 freestyle relay. The group clocked a time of 1:36.14 surpassing the 1997 record set by Hutchinson. The previous record (1:37.53) was held by K. Jensen, T. Hlavka, J. Carlson, and E. Endres.

Monticello's Amanda Paulson and Caley Oquist set meet records in the 50 freestyle and the 100 backstroke. Paulson touched first in the 50 freestyle with a time of 23.37. The previous record (23.43) was set by Megan Geyen (Watertown-Mayer/Delano) in 2007. Oquist bettered Taylor Foster's (Breck School) record by one-tenth of a second with a time of 56.62. Foster set the previous record (56.72) in last year's finals.

Hutchinson also set a meet record in the 400 freestyle relay (3:32.14). The previous record (3:34.97) was set last year by Visitation's Meg Foster, Molly Geogre, Julie Steege, and Meghan Weiss.

2A Results
Edina's Madeline Eden, Heather Laedtke, Nikki Larson, and Mary Van Metre won the 200 medley relay. The girls set a meet record with a time of 1:44.90.

Junior Kiera Janzen (Cretin-Derham Hall) was a dual event winner in the 200 (1:48.51) and 500 (4:50.73) freestyles.

Champlin Park's Abby Duncan had individual wins in the 200 IM (2:03.12) and the 100 breaststroke (1:01.33).

Hannah Bowen of Stillwater had first-place finishes in the 50 (22.76) and 100 (50.26) freestyles. She teamed up with Kaela Anderson, Monica Radecke, and Torie Buberl for a win in the 200 freestyle relay (1:34.94).

Top finishers in the diving competition include Stillwater's Maggie Keefer (451.55), Woodbury's Erin Kohlbeck (403.60), and Eagan's Sarah McCrady (398.80).

Anderson, Claire Rutscher, Radecke, and Bowen closed the meet with a first-place finish in the 400 freestyle relay (3:27.64).
