Luxembourg Short Course Championships: Christine Mailliet Rewrites National Record Books

DUDELANGE, Luxembourg, November 23. CHRISTINE Mailliet put on a show at the Luxembourg Short Course Championships held in Dudelange this weekend.

Mailliet had an incredible run at the meet with five national records. She clocked national record times in each of the IMs: 100 (1:03.86), 200 (2:18.84), 400 (4:58.17). Her 100 IM time beat her former record of 1:04.31 set at the Berlin stop of the World Cup this year, while her 200 time beat Edith van der Schilden's 2002 mark of 2:21.33. Mailliet's 400 readout beat Catherine Schneiders' 2003 mark of 5:00.42.

Mailliet also dropped the 50 (28.09) and 200 (2:16.83) fly standards. She previously held the 50 record with a 28.43 back in 2008, and beat another Arendt mark of 2:20.50 in the 200 fly set back in 1990 to completely erase one of the top swimmers from the nation to ever compete from the short course record books.

Aurelie Waltzing followed by lowering the women's 50 breast national record twice throughout the day. First, she clocked a 33.73 in prelims to beat Nancy Arendt's 1989 record of 33.90. Waltzing returned in finals with a 33.15 to further lower the mark.

Waltzing completed the breaststroke national record sweep by clearing out Arendt's 100 breast record of 1:12.72 set back in 1988 – the oldest national record in the books. Waltzing checked in with a 1:11.63, which added to the 50 breast and her World Cup performance of 2:35.81 in the 200 breast gave her the sweep.

Jean-Francois Schneiders set the men's 100 back national record with a time of 55.20. He lowered his previous standard of 55.25 set last year at the national championships.

Sarah Rolko touched in 2:13.08 in the women's 200 back to beat her own national mark of 2:14.05 set in Berlin.
