Italian Short Course Championships: Damiano Lestingi Leads Final Day With Two National Records -- November 23, 2009

RICCIONE, Italy, November 23. THE second day of competition at the Italian Short Course Championships featured five national records being rewritten. Damiano Lestingi led the way with two national records to his credit.

Lestingi first posted a 1:51.59 in the men's 200 back for the national record. Lestingi held the previous mark with a 1:52.31 from 2008. Lestingi claimed his second national record of the day with a 1:55.29 in the men's 200 IM. That swim beat Alessio Boggiatto's 1:55.55 set in 2005.

Laura Letrari lowered her Italian record in the women's 50 fly with a time of 25.84. That swim beat her 26.01 set in March of this year. Letrari would double up with a win in the 100 IM in 59.82 as well.


Chiara Boggiatto smashed her national record in the women's 200 breast with a 2:21.82. That readout far surpassed her 2:23.40 set in 2005. Marco Orsi provided another national record with a 20.96 in the men's 50 free. That performance beat the 21.10 set by Mattie Nalesso in November 2008, and moved into the same arena as Roland Schoeman's world record of 20.30 and Amaury Leveaux's European mark of 20.48.

In other action, Alessia Filippi claimed the women's 400 free title in 4:03.39, while Mirco Di Tora took home the men's 50 back in 25.01. Meanwhile, Gianluca Maglia touched first in the men's 200 free with a 1:43.62.

Additionally, Lisa Fissneider claimed the women's 50 breast crown in 30.94, while Fabio Scozzoli pocketed the men's 100 breast title in 57.70. Francesca Segat placed first in the women's 400 IM with a 4:32.29 with Tommaso Romani earning the men's 100 fly title in 51.61. Segat would double up with a 2:06.05 in the women's 200 fly.

Federico Colbertaldo completed the men's 1500 free in 14:31.34 for the win, while Elena Gemo won the women's 100 back in 58.19. Erika Ferraioli concluded the meet with a winning time of 54.41 in the women's 100 free.
