Iceland Short Course Championships: Five National Records Conclude Meet -- November 23, 2009

REYKJAVIK, Iceland, November 23. THE Iceland Short Course Championships came to a close with five more national marks falling to the wayside.

Arni Mar Arnason took down the national record in the men's 50 free with a winning time of 22.29. That swim eclipsed the standard of 22.33 set by Orn Arnarson back in 2002. Hrafnhildur Luthersdottir followed in the women's 200 IM with a 2:15.77 for the national record. She broke Erla Dogg Haraldsdottir's mark of 2:16.62 set in 2007.

Haraldsdottir then lowered her national record in the women's 50 breast with a 31.26. That swim downed her previous record of 31.61 get in May. Jakob Johann Sveinsson then dropped the men's 50 breast national record with a 27.37. That time beat Arnason's May record of 27.52.


Sigrun Bra Sverrisdottir cleared the national record in the women's 400 free with a 4:15.17. That effort lowered her 4:17.09 set back in 2008.

In other action, Ragnheidur Ragnarsdottir took home the women's 50 free title in 25.19, while Hrafn Traustason snared the men's 200 IM in 2:08.63. Anton Sveinn McKee touched first in the men's 400 free with a 4:03.20, while Bryndis Run Hansen won the women's 100 fly in 1:02.34. David Hildiberg Adalsteinsson snagged the men's 100 fly title in 55.77, while Eyglo Osk Gustafsdottir picked up the women's 200 back in 2:16.88. Adalsteinsson doubled up with the final individual swim of the meet when he touched out Kolbeinn Hrafnkelsson, 2:06.91 to 2:06.95, for the men's 200 back title.
