REYKJAVIK, Iceland, November 20. THE women's side of the Icelandic short course record book met the match in the first two days of swimming at the Iceland Short Course National Championships.
Sigrun Bra Sverrisdot lowered the national record in the women's 800 free with a time of 8:46.47. That time beat Ingibjorg Arnardottir's longstanding 1992 record of 8:53.85 set in Vestmannaeyjar.
Erla Dogg Haraldsdott posted a 1:01.77 in the women's 100 IM, lowering her national mark of 1:02.71 set back in 2007. Ragnheidur Ragnarsdottir also downed her own record in the women's 100 free with a 54.76. That swim cleared her 54.99 set in May this year.
A pair of swimmers beat the women's 200 fly national standard. Inga Elin Cryer (2:18.71) and Salome Jonsdottir (2:18.77) battled throughout the race with Cryer capturing the victory and the record. Sverrisdot held the previous mark with a 2:18.80 set in 2007.
Hrafnildur Luthersdottir picked off the women's 200 breast record with a time of 2:28.43. That readout beat the 2004 record of 2:30.64 previously set by Lara Bjargardottir.
Jakob Johann Sveinsson broke up the women's record-breaking party as the first man to lower a national record. He clocked a 2:07.75 to win the men's 200 breast and wipe out the 2:10.47 he set back in 2001.
Anton Sveinn McKee claimed the men's 1500 free title in 16:16.92, while Arni Mar Arnason took home the men's 100 IM crown in 56.94. Arnason also snatched the men's 100 free title in 50.10. Kristinn Asgeir Gylfason topped the men's 200 fly in 2:10.30, while Eyglo Osk Gustafsdottir won the women's 50 back in 30.19. David Hildiberg Adalssteinsson touched first in the men's 50 back with a 26.57.
