Bridge The Bay Short Course Meter Meet Produces FINA Masters World Records

SARASOTA, Florida, November 18. DURING the first day of the Bridge the Bay short course meter meet held in Sarasota, several FINA Masters world records were set in relay action.

The Sarasota YMCA Sharks team of Mark Drennen, Bill Brenner, Jerry Dawson and Arnaldo Perez posted an 8:26.46 in the men's 200-239 800 free relay. That time beat the previous world record of 8:33.40 set by Santa Rosa Masters last month.

Meanwhile, Sarasota's team of Jay Lockaby, Brenner, McCormack and Drennen posted a men's 200-239 400 medley relay readout of 4:17.42. That effort beat the world record previously set by a Netherlands' quartet with a 4:47.77 set last month as well.

The Gold Coast Masters mixed 240-279 400 free relay of Debbie Cavanaugh, Pat Sargeant, Cav Cavanaugh and David Quiggin also posted the first recorded time in the event with a 4:21.25. FINA has not yet recognized a Masters world record in that particular event.

In individual action, Quiggin set a U.S. Masters Swimming record in the men's 65-69 100 fly with a 1:09.78, while Florida Maverick Robert MacDonald touched in 3:45.57 for the U.S. Masters Swimming mark in the men's 80-84 200 breast.
