North Texas vs. SMU -- November 7, 2009

DALLAS, Texas, November 7. THE SMU women's swimming and diving team won 11 of the 13 events in their meet against North Texas, storming to a 143-96 victory in Joe Perkins Natatorium Friday night.

After North Texas earned first and second place points in the 200-yard medley relay, Maroua Mathlouthi put the Mustangs back on track with a first place time of 10:16.84 in the 1,000-yard freestyle. Sascha Van den Branden scored a win in the 200-free with a 1:53.01.

The Mustangs took the top two spots in the 50-free, with Lina Edlund posting a 24.17, inching out teammate Emily Vavourakis, who finished in 24.22. Devon Callaghan won the 200-yard individual medley with a 2:05.49, beating the field by more than four seconds.


Justine Clark won the 200-butterfly in 2:05.06, with Denisa Smolenova coming in second with a 2:07.60. Edlund posted her second win of the meet, taking the 100-free with a time of 52.12. Vavourakis was against second, finishing in a time of 52.45.

Therese Svendsen won the 200-backstroke in 2:04.14, before Mathlouthi finished first in the 500-free, sweeping the long-distance events with a time of 5:02.46. Callaghan closed out the individual swimming events with her second win of the night, finishing the 200-breaststroke in 2:21.81.

Audra Egenolf swept the diving events, posting a 292.88 on the one-meter board, and closing with a 321.07 on the three-meter board. She beat teammate Britney Yancey by just over 10 points on the one-meter, but won by less than four points on the three-meter, with Yancey scoring 317.10 points.

The Mustangs return to the pool Nov. 20 when they travel to Houston for the Cougar Classic, hosted by the University of Houston.
