BOULDER, Colorado, November 1. SWIMMERS across the country were treated to a little break from racing this weekend, as a lighter schedule of college duals gave teams a chance to get in a bit of quality training (and trick-or-treating).

Several intriguing match-ups took place Friday evening. Texas and Indiana met in Austin for a two-day dual meet, which the Longhorns ended up winning by a score of 179-149. Indiana's Titus Knight swam a speedy 1:37.91 to win the 200 free, while Ricky Berens posted a 1:48.71 in the 200 IM and 44.91 in the 100 free.

Meanwhile, the Texas, Indiana and Michigan women's teams butted heads in their own double dual meet in Austin. Texas's Kathleen Hersey became the first woman to break 2:00 in the 200 IM this year with a 1:59.79; Indiana's Kate Fesenko finished just behind in 2:00.02. Hersey also won the 400 IM (4:14.40) and 100 fly (53.97), while Fesenko just missed an NCAA A-cut in the 100 back with a 53.30. Emily Brunemann had a strong showing for Michigan, winning the 500 in 4:46.17.

SEC powers Georgia and Florida met in Gainesville in one of the fastest meets of the weekend. The Georgia women and Florida men came out on top. Allison Schmitt and Morgan Scroggy had outstanding meets for the Lady Bulldogs; Schmitt won the 200 free (1:46.02) and 500 free (4:44.72), while Scroggy touched first in the 100 free (49.82) and second in the 200 (1:47.00). Anne-Marie Botek swam the fastest 50 free in the country this season with a 22.61, and Gemma Spofforth posted a 1:57.31 to win the 200 back.

On the men's side, Florida's Shaune Fraser picked up victories in the 200 IM (1:50.12) and 200 fly (1:46.59), and teammate Conor Dwyer added wins in the 200 free (1:37.48) and 100 free (44.97). Georgia's Troy Prinsloo swam a difficult double in the 1,000 and 500 free, winning both in times of 9:08.32 and 4:27.80, respectively.

Tennessee's Michele King added her name to the list of sub-23 performances in the 50 free this season with a 22.94 against Kentucky on Friday.

Wayne State showed they're a force in Division II with consistently fast times this weekend. Sara Franklin and Ashley Corriveau each won two events against Oakland: Franklin touched first in the 100 (58.13) and 200 (2:11.13) back, and Corriveau won the 50 (24.14) and 100 (52.69) free. Ashley St. Andrew (1,000 free, 10:27.82), Cauli Bedran (50 free, 22.27) and Ana Gonzalez Pena (200 breast, 2:22.72) won one individual event each.

In Division III action, Emory University swam a number of impressive times in their meet against UNC-Wilmington and Houston, with several races coming down to the wire. Liz Horvat (1,000 free, 10:23.35), Paul Weinstein (1,000 free, 9:46.36), Tom DiMarco (200 free, 1:44.96), Ruth Westby (50 free, 24.31), Mark Bernstein (500 free, 4:44.40) and Peter O'Brien (400 IM, 4:12.68) all contributed with wins in their respective individual event.
