Miami-Ohio vs. Louisville

LOUISVILLE, Kentucky, October 24. CARDINAL swimmers Fanny Lilliestrom, Amanda Henleben and Nicole Landisch each had a pair of wins to lead the University of Louisville women's swim team to a 164-130 win over visiting Miami University Saturday afternoon in the Ralph Wright Natatorium.

Lilliestrom won the 100- and 200-breast with Henleben touching first in both distance events in the 1000- and 500-free. Nicole Landisch took the 50-free and the 100-fly for the win. Diver Kayla Purkiser won the 1-meter event and teammate Lindsey Stephens won the 3-meter board.

The Cardinals were down eight swimmers and a diver, as the U of L women were also competing in the SMU Classic in Dallas.

"It was great experience for everybody to get up and do well and each individual knew their role for the team. Everybody had to step up and deliver," said U of L coach Karin Olmsted. "It shows our depth and exposes areas where we might need improvements."

In the 400-medley relay, the U of L foursome of Kara Savegnago, Fanny Lilliestrom, Nicole Landisch and Anna Dishuck finished first with a time of 3:52.79. U of L also picked up third place points when Lacey Bobo, Sara Hartman, Grite Apanaviciute and Aileen Cole combined to post a 3:54.78.

In the grueling 1000, Amanda Henleben won in 10:15.91 with Melissa Steele picking up second place honors at 10:29.92.
Anna Dishuck took the 200 free in 15429 and Stephanie Juncker touched third in 1:55.77.

In the 100-back, Kara Savegnago outtouched MU's Leah Thorton by two-tenths of a second with a time of 57.71. Lacey Bobo cruised in third with a time of 59.22.

Fanny Lilliestrom won the 100-breast for the Cardinals with 1:04.22. Kristi Eramo was fourth in 1:06.22.

In the 200-fly, MU's Maegan O'Connor (2:05.84) snuck by Jackie Sherrard (2:05.98) with a late surge for the win. Amanda Henleben held on for third with a time of 2:07.61.

Nicole Landisch and Aileen Cole made it a one-two sweep in the 50-free finishing in 23.55 and 24.14.

In the 100-free Kara Favegnago touched first for the Cardinals in 52.34, and teammate Grite Apanaviciute was third in 53.26.

In the 200-backstroke, MU's Kasey Carpenter was first, going 2:04.34. U of L's Anna Dishuck was right behind her for second in 2:04.55. Lacey Bobo also scored, finishing fourth in 2:10.47.

In the 500-free, Amanda Henleben picked up her second win with a time of 5:05.43, outpacing the field by almost six seconds.

In the 100-fly, Nicole Landisch cruised into the wall first with a time of 56.73 for the Cardinals. Jackie Sherrard was fourth in 58.24.

In 1-meter diving, Kayla Purkiser just edged teammate Lindsey Stephens with a 276.90 for first place. Stephens won the 3-meter board with a score of 298.05 with Purkiser taking third with a score of 262.73.

In the 200-IM, Fanny Lilliestrom boarded the fastest time with a 2:07.79 and Anna Dishuck was second with 2:09.59.

In the event, final 200-free relay, Lacey Bobo, Aileen Cole, Kara Savegnago and Nicole Landisch combined to post a time of 1:35.53.

U of L is idle until Nov. 6 when they visit BIG EAST rival Pittsburgh for a 5 p.m. meet.

"The next part of our schedule is all about the BIG EAST as we will have Pitt, WVU, Notre Dame and Cincinnati in dual meets which will be great competition that promotes healthy rivalries," said Olmsted.
