TCU, Northern Colorado vs. Air Force

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado, October 23. THE TCU swimming and diving teams ended its road swing through Colorado with a trip of wins, as the women toppled Air Force, 169-124, and Northern Colorado, 188.5-104.5, and the men's squad triumphed over Air Force, 169-125. Friday.

The women's squad won eight of the 16 events, led by senior Jennifer Ferguson and junior Maria Paula Alvarez, both added two wins on Friday. Alvarez paced the field in the 1000-free with a time of 10:52.39, while also earning the top spot in the 500-free with a clocking of 5:13.65. The Frogs took the top three times in 500-free, as Alvarez was followed by sophomore Lindsey Stevens (5:23.18) and senior Stephanie Futscher (5:23.84).

Ferguson, a diver from Beaconsfield, Quebec, swept the diving events for the second night in a row. After topping the field in the three-meter dive with a score of 301.20, Ferguson took top honors from the one-meter springboard with a 273.60 scorecard.

Futscher claimed her second-straight 200-fly victory, hitting the wall at 2:10.57, while, sophomore Kelsey Krug earned third place recognition at 2:13.62. TCU took the top three spots in the 200-free, paced by sophomore Kaitlyn Vann at 1:57.21, followed by Stevens (1:57.92) and freshman Kristi Dena (1:55.56), respectively.

TCU owned the top three 100-free times, led by sophomore Zrinka Korac at 53.33. Sophomore Ashley Bolin (53.84) finished second and newcomer Ali Berry (54.06. Sophomore Jenny Oster came close to sweeping the backstroke events, taking the 100-back event with a time of 59.57, but narrowly missed the 200-back, taking second place at 2:09.76.

For the men's side, TCU had four double-event winners, sweeping the diving, backstroke and breaststroke events. Junior Kyle Callens stepped up for the Frogs and upended the Falcons in both the one-meter and three-meter springboards. The Deer Park, Texas native, defeated the field with his 301.50 mark from the one-meter dive, before finishing his night with a 321.05 score from the three-meter springboard.

Junior Jeff Gettel and sophomore Edgar Crespo also posted impressive performances on Friday. Gettel picked up his first wins of the season by taking the 100-back (50.70) and 200-back (1:51.72), while Crespo stole the show in the breaststroke races, earning victories in the 100-breast (56.46) and 200-breast (2:07.90).

Senior Josh Bagby picked up a pair of wins in the sprint events, toppling the field in the 50-free (21.16) and 100-free (46.40). Newcomer Devin Price followed close to Bagby, earning second place honors in the 100-free at 47.58 and third-place duties in the 50-free with a time of 21.88.

Sophomore Laszlo Gyurko took the top spot in the 200-free, boasting a time of 1:42.83, while junior Edgar Peyro tallied a win in the 100-fly with a time of 51.30, finishing ahead of fellow Frog Friedrich Grott (51.69). Peyro also took second place honors behind Crespo in the 100-breast.

TCU ended the night with a 400-free relay win with the team of Crespo, Price, Gyurko and Bagby chiming in with a time of 3:05.16. The Frogs also rallied for a third place finish by the team of Rourke Barrett, Dan Bodin, Ben Iannacone and Andrew Moore.

Other top performers for the Frogs were junior Andy Garcias-Montes and senior Ben Biefnes. Garcias-Montes, a Miami, Fla., product, snared second place honors in the 200-breast behind Crespo, while Biefnes took third place accolades. Biefnes also finished third in the 100-breast. Gyurko was tabbed in second place in the 200-back.

TCU host its annual alumni meet on Oct. 31 to coincide with the weekend's homecoming festivities before hitting the road again to battle San Diego State, UC San Diego, the University of San Diego and Idaho on Nov. 6.
