Xavier vs. Cincinnati

CINCINNATI, Ohio, October 23. THE Xavier men's and women's teams both fell to intracity rival Cincinnati Friday night in the Crosstown Splashdown held at UC's Keating Aquatics Center. The men fell, 115-90, to the Bearcats while the women gave up a 121-82 decision.

The Xavier women (1-1) had three first-place finishes in the meet. Junior Kari Peglar touched first in both the 800 freestyle (9:14.92) and the 400 freestyle (4:32.81). In the women's last event of the evening, the team of junior Bethanie Griffin, Peglar and seniors Alison Johnson and Elaina Suba took first place in the 200 freestyle relay (1:49.92).

Senior Martha Cutter-Wilson took second place in the 200 IM (2:27.76) and the 100 breaststroke (1:16.41). Griffin placed second in the 100 butterfly (1:05.81) while Suba touched second in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:08.35.

The men (0-1) ended the meet on a high note, taking first place in the 200 freestyle relay (1:36.59) with the team of senior Mickey Hafertepe, freshman Pablo Morejon and juniors Terence Mahon and Nathan Green. Green turned in second place finishes in the 800 freestyle (8:43.85) and the 100 freestyle (52.76) while sophomore Michael Zennedjian placed second in the 200 IM (2:12.20).

Junior John Roof had the second fastest time in the 100 butterfly (59.87) and freshman David Maxwell touched second in the 100 backstroke (59.84). Freshman David Gordon placed second in the 400 freestyle with the time of 4:15.51 and classmate Garrett Keirns touched second in the 100 breaststroke (1:06.71).

The Musketeer return to action Saturday, Oct. 24, as they travel to Oxford, Ohio, for a dual meet at Miami (Ohio). The meet is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
