Australian Olympian Jodie Henry Retires

SYDNEY, Australia, September 30. AT 25 years of age triple Olympic gold medalist from Athens, Jodie Henry, has officially announced her retirement from competitive swimming today.

Henry, who last competed in 2008 before failing to trial for the Beijing Olympic Games due to a pelvic injury, will leave the sport as one of the most decorated female sprinters of the last decade.

Coached by Shannon Rollason and a product of the Chandler Swim Club then Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra, Henry shone at the Athens Olympics in 2004 and was also a triple gold medalist at the Commonwealth Games and World Championships.

Her Athens achievement of three gold medals – all in world record time – in the 100m freestyle, 4x100m freestyle relay and 4x100m medley relay – will go down as one of the great Olympic performances of all-time.

Henry joined the Telstra Dolphins in 2001 for the Goodwill Games in Brisbane before competing in the first of four World Championships in Fukuoka Japan.

From 2004 to 2006 she was the Olympic and World Champion for the 100m freestyle and in two Commonwealth Games in 2002 and 2006, she won four gold and three silver medals.

Henry last swam for Australia at the 2007 World Championships where she won gold in the 4x100m freestyle and medley relay.
