CAMLOUGH, Ireland, September 21. A team of swimmers from the Newry Triathlon Club in Ireland set the Guinness World Record for Longest Continuous Open Water Relay Swim with a 10-day performance according to 10KSwimmer.com.
The team swam for a total of 232 hours, 52 minutes and 30 seconds to finish a combined total of 685.5K (426.5) in the effort that took place during nine nights and 10 days of swimming. The previous record stood at 480K.
"The level of participation by everyone in Camlough and the wider South Armagh area was fantastic," media coordinator Maria Murphy said. "This was a very serious and ultimately very successful attempt to break the world record for the longest continuous open water relay swim, but it's fair to say that there was a really buzzing, carnival-type atmosphere at the Lake over the course of the 10-day marathon swim."
