FORT LAUDERDALE, Florida, September 15. THE American Swimming Coaches Association (ASCA), at its annual Awards Dinner last Friday in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., named Eddie Reese its Coach of the Year.
Reese was cited for his 2009 work with men's backstroke World Record holder Aaron Peirsol, breaststroker Eric Shanteau and freestylers Garret Weber-Gale, David Walters and Ricky Berens.
It is the fifth time Reese has garnered the award, tying him for the most with current USA National Head Coach Mark Schubert.
Also at the awards dinner Craig Lord of SwimNews.com was the recipient of the Media Award for his coverage this past year on suit-related issues.
Seven coaches were also inducted into the ASCA Hall of Fame: Ron Ballatore (UCLA), Bob Gillett (Arizona Desert Fox/Golden West), Peter Malone (Kansas City Blazers), Phil Moriarty (Yale), Jack Nelson (Fort Lauderdale Swim Team) and Richard Shoulberg (Germantown Academy).

September 15, 2009 Does anyone know what's going on with the Duel in the Pool in Manchester? The US team was supposed to be chosen on 9/14. We're eight days overdue and I haven't seen anything. Did I just miss it? Submitted by: tootall79
September 16, 2009 Congrats to Eddie. Well deserved. Great coach and person. Year after year he produces great new talent and continues to coach his veterans to national teams. Looking foreward to this NCAA season and the leadup to London. Submitted by: gtx84
September 18, 2009 Congratulations to Eddie! Somehow, with all of his unparalleled success, Eddie manages to fly quietly under the radar. He just does his thing (spectacularly) and avoids the spotlight, while many with far less impressive accomplishments garner most of the attention. Eddie doesn't get anywhere near the appreciation he deserves because he won't toot his own horn. Instead, he allows his swimmers to shine, while he opts to stay off the stage. I have enormous respect and affection for the man. Submitted by: fluidg
September 18, 2009 But Craig Lord? Are you kidding me? This "award" removes any doubt that this whole anti-suit movement is political and hysterical. This is like the crew of the Titanic spending their final hours voting on an award for the lookout. Craig Lord is a false prophet. Beware. Submitted by: fluidg
