Jose Finkel Trophy: Guilherme Guido Downs South American Record

FLORIANOPOLIS, Brazil, September 6. GUILHERME Guido lowered his South American record in the men's 100 back at the Jose Finkel Trophy event held over long course meters.

Guido raced to a 53.24 to win the men's 100 back title on the final day of the meet. The performance broke his continental record of 53.61 set at the 2009 World Championships. He also moved from 25th all time to 16th just ahead of France's Benjamin Stasiulis (53.27). Leonardo Guedes (54.47) and Gabriel Manga (54.62) rounded out the top three in the event.

Daynara Paula won the women's 100 free crown with a 55.39 after setting the meet record with a 55.21 during prelims. Tatiana Barbosa finished second in 55.57, while Michelle Lenhardt claimed third in 55.74. Nicholas Dos Santos lowered the men's 100 free meet record with a 49.00. Guilherme Dos Santos placed second in 49.02, while Bruno Fratus touched third in 49.13.

Fabiola Molina snared the women's 100 back meet record in 1:00.22. Fernanda Alvarenga finished second in 1:02.27 with Lorena Rezende taking third in 1:03.82.

Tatiane Sakemi touched first in the women's 100 breast with a 1:09.89 after setting the meet record with a 1:09.84 during prelims. Carolina Mussi earned second in 1:10.28, while Natalia Favoreto wound up third in 1:11.01. Henrique Barbosa followed with a 1:00.52 in the men's 100 breast to lower the meet record. Joao Luiz Junior snagged second in 1:00.67, while Eduardo Fischer took third in 1:00.84.

Joanna Maranhao cruised in the women's 200 IM with a 2:13.31 to set the meet record. Larissa Cieslak finished a distant second in 2:19.77, while Julia Siqueira claimed third in 2:20.78. Thiago Pereira closed down the meet with a 1:57.40 in the men's 200 IM for the meet record. Andre Schultz touched second in 1:58.61, while Henrique Rodrigues completed the podium in 2:00.73.
