Liping Ji, Run Jiang Shi Set Asian Records at Chinese Nationals

BEIJING, China, September 1. OVER the weekend at the 2009 Chinese Nationals, a pair of Asian long course records took a fall.

Liping Ji clocked a 1:05.32 in the women's 100 breaststroke, crushing the former mark. The effort moved Liping into fourth all time in the event. Only Jessica Hardy (1:04.45), Rebecca Soni (1:04.84) and Leisel Jones (1:05.09) have been faster. Xuejuan Luo owned the previous Asian record with a 1:06.64 set in 2004.

Meanwhile, Run Jiang Shi posted a 21.95 in the men's 50 free. That swim broke the record of 22.13 he had already clocked in June at the Chinese Youth Nationals. That swim erased the 22.18 set by Tomohiro Yamanoi of Japan as the Asian record back in 2001.
