USA Swimming Releases 2009-10 National Team Roster

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado, August 27. USA Swimming has released the roster of swimmers named to the 2009-2010 National Team. The list features a total of 110 swimmers, including World Championship gold medalists Michael Phelps (Baltimore, Md.), Ryan Lochte (Daytona Beach, Fla.), Rebecca Soni (Plainsboro, N.J.) and Aaron Peirsol (Irvine, Calif.) and Ariana Kukors (Auburn, Wash.).

Swimmers are selected for the USA Swimming National Team based upon their times in Olympic events swum in 2009 at the ConocoPhillips USA Swimming National Championships, the U.S. Open, World University Games and FINA World Championships. Swimmers with the top six times in each event make the National Team, however, relay lead-offs and time trials are not included.

Ryan Lochte made the National Team in five events (200m IM/400m IM/200m back/100m free/200m free), the most events of any swimmer named to the roster, while World Championship bronze medalist Elizabeth Beisel (Saunderstown, R.I) and World Championship silver medalist Tyler Clary (Riverside, Calif.) qualified in four events each.

Athletes chosen for the 2009-2010 Open Water National Team were selected from the top six place finishers at the 2009 USA Swimming 10K National Championships. This includes standout open water swimmers, including 2009 World Championship team members Andrew Gemmell (Wilmington, Del.), Fran Crippen (Philadelphia), Emily Brunemann (Crescent Springs, Ky.) and Eva Fabian (Keene, N.H.).

Benefits offered to USA Swimming National Team members include reimbursement for travel to USA Swimming Grand Prix meets and training camp opportunities. Select athletes are eligible for monthly assistance and Elite Athlete Health Insurance. A full list of opportunities available to members of the National Team will be posted on www.usaswimming.org on September 1.
