USA Swimming Sectionals, Clovis: Second Evening Comes to Close

CLOVIS, California, July 23. AFTER an initial night centered on distance events, the second evening of long course meter action at the USA Swimming Sectionals held in Clovis, Calif., featured a full schedule of events.

Brea's Rachel Grant snatched the women's 200 fly in 2:15.10 with Ripon's Kathryn Davey finishing second in 2:15.96. Palo Alto Stanford's Ally Howe, 13, wound up third in 2:16.54. De Anza Cupertino's Erich Peske topped the men's 200 fly in 2:01.95. Clovis' Cary Wright touched second in 2:03.96, while Santa Clara's Jonny Muir earned third in 2:04.22.

Aquazots' Sarah Furgatch captured the women's 200 breast in 2:31.27. Monrovia's Angela Haven garnered second in 2:33.14 with Swim Pasadena's Andrea Kropp taking third in 2:33.91. Terrapins' Sean Mahoney demolished the field in the men's 200 breast with a 2:10.32, fresh off an outing at the World University Games. Sandpipers' Cody Miller finished second in 2:17.75 with Walnut Creek's Timothy Freeman placing third in 2:18.16.

Aquazots' Melanie Klaren snagged the women's 200 back in 2:16.38, while Sierra Marlins' Alyssa Conner touched second in 2:19.00. North Bay's Deborah Roth turned in a third-place 2:19.32. Lakeridge's Michael Weiss hit the wall in 2:04.15 for the win in the men's 200 back. Class Aquatics' Chase Bloch took second in 2:06.66, while Redlands' Nolan Brown placed third in 2:07.76.

Santa Clara's Courtney Monsees raced to first in the women's 100 free with a 56.10. Sierra Marlins' Alexandra Whitford clinched second in 57.11, while Terrapins' Chelsea Chenault rounded out the top three in 57.33. Clovis' Joshua Daniels went home with the men's 100 free crown in 51.02. Santa Barbara's Scott Vogelgesang finished second in 51.13, while Penguin's Kyle Virva earned third in 51.24.
