USA Swimming Sectionals, Mount Hood: Missy Franklin Doubles On Night Two

MOUNT HOOD, Oregon, July 22. MISSY Franklin, 14, of the Colorado Stars doubled up during the second night of action at the USA Swimming Sectionals held in Mount Hood, Ore.

Franklin opened the night with a 55.65 for the women's 100 free title. Roseburg's Kaylin Bing took second in 57.36 with Caroline Piehl of the Colorado Stars taking third in 57.56. She returned in the women's 200 back with a meet-record time of 2:12.49. The performance cleared the listed meet standard of 2:14.32 set by Bonnie Brandon last year. Brandon, 15, of Mission Aurora placed second in 2:14.05, while DU Hilltopper Kirsten Milberg finished third in 2:17.64.

Missoula's David Cromwell won the men's 100 free in 50.17, while North Jeffco's John Dalton claimed second in 50.99. Arizona Marlin Chris Pickard wound up third in 51.53. Greenwood Tiger's Jared Markham took home the men's 200 back in 2:03.37. Tualatin Hills' Connor McCarroll finished second in 2:03.86 with Tacoma's Jesse Stipek taking third in 2:05.15.

Colorado Stars' Kelly Naze, 15, captured the women's 200 breast in 2:33.33. North Jeffco's Kathryn Johnson came in second with a 2:34.58, while Bearcat's Crystal Kibby finished third in 2:35.24. Swim Utah's John Baque followed with a 2:18.92 in the men's 200 breast to clear the listed meet record of 2:19.56 set by Michel DeCarolis in 2008. Pueblo's Tanner Krall earned second in 2:21.85 with DU Hilltopper Brian Krump claiming third in 2:22.21.

Spokane's Jenni Dole held off Tualatin Hills' Taylor Lakey, 2:17.46 to 2:17.96, for the women's 200 fly title. South Coast's Rachel Heaney placed third in 2:18.41. Chris Wiggin garnered the men's 200 fly crown in 2:00.81 with Pickard taking second in 2:04.15. Tualatin Hills' Neil O'Halloran completed the top three in 2:04.45.
