Northwestern Names O'Connor Athlete of the Week -- February 1, 2001

EVANSTON, Ill., Feb. 1. NORTHWESTERN University named swimmer Kellan O'Connor its male Athlete of the Week on January 29. The selections were based on athletic competition from January 22-28.

Sophomore Kellan O'Connor (Phoenix, Ariz./Brophy Prepatory) broke a pool and school record on his way to victory in the 200 butterfly against Ohio State and Iowa on Friday. His time of 1:46.59 breaks his previous school record, set a year ago, by .39 of a second, and breaks the pool record by 1.94 seconds.

On Saturday, O'Connor finished the two-day meet with a first in the 400 individual medley (3:59.51) and a second in the 100 butterfly (49.72). Each of his times were team and personal season bests.
