World University Games, Water Polo: Women’s Semifinals Begin

BELGRADE, Serbia, July 10. THREE matches took place during the women's water polo events at the World University Games.

Hungary knocked off Russia, 11-9, in the first semifinal. Barbara Bujka led the way for Hungary with five goals, as Hungary went 11-for-26 from the field. Three players scored a pair of goals for Russia, which converted 9 of 29 shots.

In the other semifinal, China smashed Canada, 16-7. Gao Ao tallied five goals for China, which went 16-for-31 from the field. Three players connected twice for Canada, which tallied 7 goals on 36 shots.

In the fifth-place match, Australia downed Serbia, 13-7, to push the host country into sixth. Joanna Whitehorne and Keesja Gofers each turned in a hat trick for Australia, which went 13-for-28. Dragana Ivkovic notched two goals for Serbia, which connected on 7 of 29 shots.
