NCAA Div. II: DRury Drubs Delta State -- January 27, 2001

SPRINGFIELD, MO., Jan. 27. DRURY COLLEGE proved why it is one of the perennial powerhouses in Division II Swimming & Diving, as the Panthers handed Delta State a 281-184 combined team loss Saturday.

The Lady Statesmen fell 81-149 and slip to 7-4 on the season, while the Statesmen were defeated 103-132 with a 7-3 mark on the year.

Chris Edmaiston recorded another victory for Delta State in the 500-freestyle with a time of 4:46.57 and placed second in the 1000-freestyle (9:49.66), marking the first time the freshman has dropped a race in his young Delta State career.

The Delta State men's 200-freestyle relay team
captured the second top finish on the day with a mark of 1:28.08. John Deville, Onurkan Guvensel and Jimmy Denning combined for a clean DSU sweep in the 100-breaststroke with times of 1:01.29, 1:01.77 and
1:01.78, respectively.

Melissa Torre, Kristen Demourelle and Noelle Wehrle combined for the same feat, as the trio swept the women's 100-breaststroke with marks of 1:10.20, 1:13.64 and 1:13.68, respectively. The Lady Statesmen 200-freestyle relay squad also powered to a top finish with an effort of 1:50.59.

Freshman Shannon Hulton took two third place finishes in the 500- and 1000-freestyle events with times of 5:31.97 and 11:15.42, respectively.

Delta State will be forced to rebound quickly with more stiff competition arriving this Saturday, February 3, in the form of University of Louisiana-Monroe. The meet will be held at the new Health,
Physical Education & Recreation Aquatics Center on the campus of Delta State University at 1 p.m.
