Team USA Men’s Water Polo Rebounds With 10-7 Defeat Of Australia At FINA World League Super Finals

PODGORICA, Montenegro, June 20. THE USA Men's Senior National Team bounced back from a loss to Serbia on Thursday with a 10-7 defeat of Australia today at the FINA World League Super Finals. The win moves Team USA into the semi-final round against an opponent to be determined.

As for this match it was Australia taking the momentum early on leading 3-2 after the first quarter. In the second the United States rebounded posting a shutout while adding on three goals to build a 5-3 halftime advantage. Following the intermission the United States kept building outscoring the Aussies 2-1 in the period to hold a 7-4 lead. In the final quarter the two teams each scored three goals apiece leaving the outcome in favor of the United States as they came away with a 10-7 victory.

Tony Azevedo and Peter Varellas led the way on offense with two goals apiece. Joining them were a mix of goal scorers adding a tally each including JW Krumpholz, Justin Johnson, Adam Wright, Jeff Powers, Layne Beaubien, and Brian Alexander. Merrill Moses did the job in net discarding 12 shots.

Team USA went 5/12 on player advantages and converted their lone penalty shot of the day.
