SARASOTA, Florida, June 18. THIS past weekend at the long course meter Bumpy Jones Classic held in Sarasota, Fla., several FINA World and U.S. Masters Swimming marks took a tumble.
With nearly 200 Masters swimmers attending the meet at the new headquarters for U.S. Masters Swimming in Sarasota, the titular swimmer of the Meet did not disappoint. Jones posted 75-79 FINA world records in the 100 back (1:20.98), 200 back (2:59.39), 200 IM (3:06.58) and 400 IM (6:48.48).
Meanwhile, Karlyn Pipes-Neilsen clocked a FINA world record in the 45-49 division in the 200 free (2:10.09).
U.S. Masters Swimming standards fell as well with Jack Groselle taking the 55-59 50 breast (33.07), while the Florida Maverick Masters team of Paul Hutinger, Robert MacDonald, Pat Tullman, and Jean Troy wiped out the mixed 400 medley relay record for the 320-359 division (7:45.92).
