Olympian Andy Potts Claims Third Straight Victory at Escape from Alcatraz

SAN FRANCISCO, California, June 16. OVER the weekend, Olympian Andy Potts won his third straight Escape from Alcatraz triathlon in dominating fashion. Potts swam for Michigan and made the 2004 U.S. Olympic roster.

Potts completed the course, which included a 1.5-mile swim in 59 degree water, in 2:07:25. He beat fellow American David Thompson by a wide margin as Thompson took second in 2:09:51. New Zealand's Graham O'Grady placed third in 2:10:37.

Mary Beth Ellis of the U.S. won the women's race in 2:21:23, while Great Britain's Leanda Cave finished second in 2:23:02. Becky Lavelle of the U.S. completed the top three in 2:24:00.

The course also included an 18-mile bike stage as well as an 8-mile run.
