FINA Confirms Dubai Charter Not Applicable to Masters Swimming

LAUSANNE, Switzerland, June 12. AS first reported by SwimNews.com, and confirmed today by Swimming World Magazine, the Dubai Charter on swimsuit rules is not being applied to Masters swimming by FINA.

"In fact, the Dubai Charter is not applicable to Masters," FINA Press Commission member Pedro Adrega told Swimming World.

For those that are new to the speedsuit conversation, the Dubai Charter is the set of rules by which FINA is beginning to restrict technology as it is applied to swimsuit manufacturing. These rules regulate the buoyancy and coverage of particular suits, and will soon begin to address issues of permeability within suit fabric.

There are still issues regarding FINA Masters world record ratification as it pertains to types of suits worn, and what particular body within FINA will make the final decision. Swimming World did not immediately receive an answer to follow up questions regarding the process by which Masters swimming will be ruled within the FINA structure.
