SANTA CLARA, California, June 11. THE initial evening of long course meter action at the Santa Clara Invitational featured distance freestyle events.
Longhorn's Amber McDermott posted a 16:38.06 to grab the win in the women's 1500 free. Pleasanton's Jennifer Narum touched second in 16:46.33, while Razorback's Jamie Marks placed third in 16:51.15.
Chad La Tourette led a trio of swimmers under the meet record in the men's 800 free. He clocked a time of 7:53.56 for the victory, while Australia's Robert Hurley (7:53.87) and Ryan Napoleon (7:54.44) rounded out the top three. They each cleared the meet standard of 7:57.73 set by Erik Vendt back in 2004.

June 11, 2009 PRs for both Robert Hurley and Ryan Hapolean, the latter dropping four seconds from his olf pr anf meet-record 7:58 from the Junior Pan-Pacs last January in Guam.
He'll be a good one oe of hese days and Hurley's no slouch eihher.
La Tourette's time is his second-best 800, off his 7:49 that won gold at the 2007 World Uniersity Games in Bangkok.

June 12, 2009 Hurley at one point held the WR in the 50 scm back. Given his backstroking ability and endurance you'd think he had a good 200 back in him. Submitted by: halfbreed
