John Kegelman of Johns Hopkins Leads ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American At-Large Men's Team -- June 9, 2009

TOWSON, Maryland, June 9. JOHN Kegelman, a senior swimmer at Johns Hopkins, led the College Division of the 2009 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American Men's At-Large Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of
America.

A Yorktown, Va. native, Kegelman led Johns Hopkins to an 11th-place finish at the NCAA Division III swimming & diving championship meet. A Mechanical Engineering major with a perfect 4.00 G.P.A., he has earned an NCAA Post Graduate Scholarship.


A team captain for the Blue Jays the last two years, Kegelman is a five-time All-American. As a senior, he earned first team All-American honors in the 200 medley and 400 medley relays. A three-time ECAC champion, he led the Blue Jays to three top-10 finishes at the NCAA Championships, including a national runner-up showing in 2008.

Kegelman has interned at the NASA Langley Research Center while serving as a tutor, research and teaching assistant.

Meanwhile, senior goalkeeper Jeff Lerg of Michigan State University led the University Division as a member of the ice hockey team.

Alabama's Kevin Greer, Brown's Dan Ricketts claimed spots on the First Team University Division, while Washington's Alex Beyer, Ohio Wesleyan's David Gatz and Gustavus Adolphus' David Pearson joined Kegelman on the First Team College Division.
