Limestone College Signs Four Men

GAFFNEY, South Carolina, June 8. LIMESTONE College Head Swimming Coach Ryan Mallam has announced the signing of four swimmers for the 2009-10 season. Brian Kaylor (Greensboro, N.C.), Gene Magliaro (Greenville, S.C.), Blake Schaeffer (Simpsonville, S.C.) and Cody Sox (West Columbia, S.C.) will compete with the Saints next year.

Sox was a four-year letterwinner for White Knoll High School. He was a three-time regional and four-time state champion in sprinting events. Sox captained his team as a senior and was also named team MVP.

"Cody has experienced a lot of success during his high school career," Mallam stated. "He will help our team out a lot next season in the sprinting events."

Kaylor spent last season at the University of Missouri, where he earned a spot as a walk-on with the swimming program. Prior to competing with Mizzou, he attended Greensboro Day School. He earned All-Conference and All-State honors on four occasions during his prep career. He was named the Piedmont Athletic Conference of Independent Schools' MVP twice. He won the 100-yard butterfly state championship and helped his team to the state title. Kaylor was a member of the Greensboro Swimming Association Club Team and helped the 200 medley relay squad finish fourth at the 2006 American Short Course Championships. His personal best times include a 21.40 in the 50 freestyle, a 52.8 in the 100 butterfly, and a 53.0 in the 100 backstroke.

"Brian has great size, speed, and talent," pointed out Mallam. "We expect he will be a very strong contributor to the team next season."

Magliaro was a four-year letterwinner for Mauldin High School. He earned All-State and All-Region honors four times and was named team MVP as a senior. He took third in the 100 breast stroke at the state championship. Magliaro also competed with Team Greenville for four seasons and earned numerous section honors.

"Gene is an outstanding swimmer," Mallam commented. "He brings us more depth and talent in the breaststroke and individual medley events."

Schaeffer, a teammate of Magliaro's from Team Greenville and Mauldin High School, also had a very successful prep career. His top times include a 1:44.70 in the 200 freestyle, a 4:45.00 in the 500 freestyle, a 9:38.27 in the 1000 freestyle, and a 16:22.60 in the 1650 freestyle. He earned All-State and All-Region honors in high school. While competing with Team Greenville, Schaeffer was the 2006-07 High Point Champion at the South Carolina State meet in the long course and short course. He was the 2007-08 High Point Champion in short course at the Senior Sections. He also earned the 2008-09 High Point Champion title on the long course at Senior Sections.

"Blake brings a great deal of talent in the distance freestyle," said Mallam. "He definitely adds more depth to our distance events."
