Prague Cup: Maria Georgia Michalaka, Barbora Zavadova Double

PRAGUE, Czech Republic, June 6. THE first night of long course meter finals action at the Prague Cup witnessed a pair of women producing double-gold outings. Both Maria Georgia Michalaka and Barbora Zavadova snatched two first-place finishes during the evening.

Patricie Majcherova tied Israel's Nicol Samsonyk in the women's 50 free with matching 27.57s. Israel's Doron Osher Levy wound up third in 27.89. Lukas Harnol took the men's 50 free title in 23.64 with Ondrej Broda (24.09) and Michal Ledl (24.17) wrapping up the top three.

Greece's Maria Georgia Michalaka topped the women's 50 breast in 33.55 with Corrie Scott taking second in 33.71. Hana Palouskova finished third in 33.75. Petr Bartunek captured the men's 50 breast title in 28.83. Douglas Scott (29.78) and Daniel Vaisocher (30.27) finished second and third.

Gabriela Kostkova touched out Alzbeta Rehorkova, 28.67 to 28.69, for the women's 50 fly win. Anat Zimin of Israel finished third in 29.26. Daniel Scott picked up the men's 50 fly crown in 25.43. Tomas Plevko took second in 25.53 with Harnol earning his second medal of the evening with a third-place 25.64.

Israel went 1-2 in the women's 50 back. Levy won in 31.38 after taking third in the 50 free. Danielle Clinger placed second in 31.44 with Greece's Maris Tzon Chou Tsangk earning third in 31.47. Israel also went 1-2 in the men's 50 back. Jonatan Josef Kopelev finished in 27.24 for the win, while Yakov-Yan Zurablov took second in 27.90. Martin Tomanik finished third in 28.10.

With the sprint 50s done for the day, Zofie Kvackova cruised in the women's 200 free in 2:06.89. Jana Pechanova placed second in 2:08.92 with Zuzana Popieluchova taking third in 2:12.25. Israel's Denis Gayvoronskiy followed in the men's 200 free with a winning 1:54.09. Scott Houston touched second in 1:54.46 with Lukas Jachno finishing third in 1:56.01.

Barbora Zavadova snagged the women's 100 fly crown in 1:02.90 with Israel's Anat Zimin (1:03.56) and Kostkova (1:03.73) rounding out the top three. Stuart Houston won the men's 100 fly in 56.35 with Israel's Nimrod Hayet (56.82) and teammate Kopelev (57.07) taking second and third.

Tsangk took the women's 200 back in 2:25.81 for Greece. Clinger placed second in 2:36.48, while Pavlina Wadenkova took third in 2:39.09. Zurablov claimed the men's 200 back title in 2:05.96 with Scott Houston (2:08.52) and Louri Samoulich (2:09.31) completing the podium.

Zavadova picked up her second victory of the evening with a 4:52.00 in the women's 400 IM. Rehorkova finished second in 5:10.10 with Kristyna Branisova taking third in 5:17.48. Matthew McCusker next snagged the men's 400 IM in 4:37.41. Jan Schoppel placed second in 4:38.39, while Karel Baloun took third in 4:39.93.

Michalaka claimed her second gold of the night with a 1:10.49 in the women's 100 breast. Hana Palouskova took second in 1:13.33 with Roisin Donnelly placing third in 1:14.54. Douglas Scott concluded the evening with a 1:04.57 for the men's 100 breast triumph. Patrik Davidek took second in 1;05.64 while Ondrej Smetana placed third in 1:06.41.
