Slovakian Grand Prix, Bratislava: Zuzana Mimovicova Sets Pair of Slovakian Records; Verrasztos Dominate Other Events

BRATISLAVA, Slovakia, May 31. ZUZANA Mimovicova put her name in the Slovakian record books with a pair of breaststroke national records during the Slovakian Grand Prix held in Bratislava. Meanwhile, Hungarian siblings David and Evelyn Verraszto put on a show with multiple victories throughout the three-day long course meter meet.

Mimovicova won the women's 200 breast in a Slovakian record time of 2:35.64. That performance wiped out the 2:36.24 set by Miriam Bystrianska back in 1991. Mimovicova set another Slovakian record the following day in the women's 100 breast. She posted a time of 1:12.44 to erase the 1:12.72 set by Natalia Kodajova back in 1996.

During the first day of distance-packed swimming, Slovenia's Neja Skufca won the women's 1500 free in 17:29.65. Meanwhile, Czech Michal Spurny topped the men's 1500 free in 15:54.42. Hungary's Evelyn Verraszto captured the women's 800 free in 8:36.24. In the 400 IMs, Hungary's David Verraszto took the men's title in 4:19.54, while Slovenia's Nika Karlina Petric earned the women's crown in 4:53.53.

The second day of action featured a mix between sprint 50s and longer distance 200s. Hungary's Peter Hos picked up the men's 50 fly in 24.45, while Czech's Klara Vaclavikova won the women's 50 back in 29.78. Ukraine's Igor Borysik touched first in the men's 50 breast in 28.23 with Evelyn Verraszto just missing her Hungarian record (25.91) in the women's 50 free with a 25.99.

Czech's Michal Rubecek followed with a winning time of 1:52.69 in the men's 200 free, while Hungary's Gabor Balogh took the men's 200 back in 2:03.00. Vaclavikova won her second title of the night with a 1:03.61 in the women's 100 back, while David Verraszto claimed his second gold in as many nights with a 2:00.65 in the men's 200 fly. Evelyn Verraszto grabbed her second triumph of the evening and third of the meet with a 1:00.47 in the women's 100 fly. Meanwhile, Borysik posted a 1:00.42 to win the men's 100 breast with David Verraszto winning gold medal number three with a 2:04.05 in the men's 200 IM. Evelyn Verraszto, meanwhile, snared her fourth title with a 55.74 in the women's 100 free.

The final night of swimming flipped the gender on the second day's schedule. Slovakia's Katarina Listopadova won the women's 50 fly in 27.98, while Slovenia's Robert Zbogar took the men's 50 back in 27.33. Czech's Martina Dankova claimed the women's 50 breast title in 33.41 with Slovakia's Roman Kucik taking the men's 50 free in 23.68.

Evelyn Verraszto won her fifth crown of the meet with a 1:58.07 in the women's 200 free, while Czech's Martina Elhenicka captured the women's 200 back in 2:17.76. Zbogar snared his second victory of the meet with a 57.85 in the men's 100 back, while Hungary's Emese Kovacs picked up the women's 200 fly in 2:20.25.

Hos touched the wall first in the men's 100 fly in 53.83 for his second triumph of the meet, while Hungary's Daniel Gyurta placed first in the men's 200 breast in 2:13.16. Evelyn Verraszto concluded an amazing meet with her sixth victory when she clocked a 2:14.68 in the women's 200 IM, while Czech's Martin Verner completed the meet with a 49.79 to win the men's 100 free.
