UNLV’s Marva Harpak Named CoSIDA Academic All-District

LAS VEGAS, Nevada, May 22. UNLV women's swimmer Marva Harpak has been voted to the CoSIDA Academic All-District VIII University Division At-Large Women's Third Team as selected by sports information directors, it was announced on Thursday. This is the first academic honor of her career.

Harpak, a junior and native of Kiryat Tivon, Israel, was the 2009 Mountain West Conference champion in the 200 free in the second-fastest time ever at UNLV. She added two more top-eight finishes (50 and 100 free), and swam on UNLV's first-place and MWC record-setting 800 free relay while helping the Rebels to a runner-up finish at the meet. In her career, she has a total of seven top-eight finishes all-time at the conference championships.

Harpak, a two-time All-MWC Academic Team member, carries a cumulative 3.54 GPA with a major in biotechnology.

The at-large all-district team represents the sports of fencing, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming, tennis, volleyball, water polo and wrestling. Student-athletes must be in at least their second season, hold a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.30 and be a starter or important reserve to be eligible.

District VIII is made up of schools in California, Hawaii, Alaska, Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Nevada and Utah.
