GTAC Disability Meet Produces World Record, American Records

CINCINNATI, Ohio, May 21. THE Greater Toledo Aquatic Club Disability Meet, held at the University of Cincinnati last weekend, produces a Paralympic world record along with 11 American standards.

Susan Beth Scott broke her world record in the 1500 free for the S10 division with a time of 18:33.86. The swim broke her previous record of 18:48.66.

On top of Scott's world record, 10 other American records took a tumble. Evan Austin broke the S8 50 free record with a 31.40. That swim beat Tom Miazga's 31.48.

Blake Adams shot down two S13 records with top times in the 200 free (2:26.25) and 50 back (42.44). He broke the records of Jeff Mayy (2:26.56) and himself (44.67), respectively.

Michael DeMarco chipped in four S3 American records in the 400 free (9:40.82), 800 free (19:28.99), 1500 free (36:29.66) and 200 back (4:47.89). Each performance lowered his own standard in the 400 free (9:48.26), 800 free (19:42.29), 1500 free (37:24.04) and 200 back (4:49.09).

Tharon Drake eclipsed the SB11 50 breast American record with a 40.71. That time beat the 41.47 set by Philip Scholz. Meanwhile, Kayla Wheeler clocked a 1:53.30 in the S3 50 fly to break the American record of 2:06.33 set by Sylvia Oropeza. Additionally, Curtis Lovejoy set the first time recorded by an American in the SB1 200 breast with a 7:33.50.
