Minnesota Signs Washington State Champion

MINNEAPOLIS, Minnesota, May 4. UNIVERSITY of Minnesota men's swimming and diving head coach Dennis Dale announced today that Sean Nesheim (Everett, Wash.) has signed a National Letter of Intent to attend the University of Minnesota.

Nesheim, a senior at Cascade High School, won the 2008 Washington State 4A High School title in the 200 freestyle and placed second in 2009. He also finished third at the 2008 Championships in the 100 backstroke.

"We are really excited to have Sean join our program," assistant coach Bill Tramel said. "It's also exciting to have another fine swimmer from the Pacific Northwest. Sean really enjoyed his visit to Minnesota and his addition will really bolster our middle distance freestyle lineup."

Nesheim, who is a Junior Nationals qualifier, also competes for Cascade Swim Club under coach Tom Pardee.

His top times are 1:39.66 in the 200 free, 4:30.83 in the 500 free and 9:28.08 in the 1000 free (short course yards).

Nesheim is the fifth member of the 2008-09 Gopher signing class, joining Goran Miljat (Split, Croatia/Limestone College (S.C.), Michael McBroom (The Woodlands, Texas), Matt Benecki (Chantilly, Va.) and Ben Griggs (Fargo, N.D.).
