Belgian Long Course Championships: Yoris Grandjean Tops Belgian Record

ANTWERP, Belgium, May 3. YORIS Grandjean crushed his Belgian record in the men's 50 free with a time of 22.13 during the final day of competition at the Belgian Long Course Championships. The effort wiped out his 22.45 set at the Beijing Olympics. Corentin Poels finished second in 22.78, while Matthias De Geeter took third in 23.42.

Pavel Sankovich of Belarus started the day with a 2:06.90 in the men's 200 IM for the win. Michael Robbe topped the locals with a second-place 2:09.55, while Emmanuel Vanluchene took third in 2:09.71. Pierre-Antoine Meunier followed with a winning time of 1:04.17 in the men's 100 breast. Jonas Coreelman (1:05.52) and Clement Vanalderwelt (1:05.84) rounded out the top three.

Aleksandra Kovaleva of Belarus won the women's 200 back in 2:17.97 with Charlotte Parent (2:18.39) and Svetlana Khokhlova (2:18.57) placing second and third. Belarus' Aleksandra Gerasimenya won the women's 50 fly in 26.61, while Kimberly Buys just missed her Belgian record of 26.63 with a second-place 26.78. Silke Van Hoof finished third in 28.04.

Bruno Claeys came up just short of his men's 50 back Belgian record with a 26.17. His previous standard of 26.13 remained on the books. Pierre-Yves Romanini took second in 26.42, while Sankovich placed third in 26.72. Kim Janssens wound up winning the women's 50 breast in 32.86, while Elise Matthysen touched second in 32.99. Ariane Ooms took third in 33.33.

Stef Verachten topped the men's 400 free in 3:53.80 with Glenn Surgeloose finishing a distant second in 4:00.17. Axel Vandevelde claimed third in 4:01.26. Gerasimenya stopped the clock in 2:00.58 for the women's 200 free crown. Buys took second in 2:03.08, while Nina Van Koeckhoven captured third in 2:03.22.

Francois Heersbrandt topped the men's 100 fly with a time of 52.98, while Sankovich touched second in 53.64 and Mathieu Fonteyn finished third in 53.89. Jessica Albert won the women's 800 free in 9:01.41, while Sarah Delvaux (9:01.47) and Gala Kenis (9:11.95) placed second and third.
